Heart of the City Mission Foundation, Fort Wayne, Indiana is very excited to announce it has received a much needed and useful grant from the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation to support its Food Rescue and Food Distribution programs.
“We feel blessed to be able to continue to invest in your food rescue program,” said Meg Distler, Executive Director, St. Joseph Community Health Foundation. “Helping to provide supporting assistance efforts for ‘vulnerable, food-insecure individuals’ in Allen County to access nutritious food enables us to keep alive the 100+ year legacy of helping to make sure that everyone in this community can access quality care for their mind, body, and spirit.”
St. Joseph Community Health Foundation board members toured the Heart of the City Mission Foundation, located on Cass Street, meeting individuals and volunteers connected with the food rescue and distribution program.
“One of the special conditions of this grant requirement was asking us to show how we holistically approach and help those we serve with a sense of purpose,” explained Timothy Stauffer, Board Chair of the Heart of the City Mission Foundation. “Providing access through distributing rescued food each week to under-served households in the heart of our city helps not only with daily nutrition, but also helps those we serve build their own sustainability by nourishing their mind, body, and spirit."
The Heart of the City Mission Foundation was formed in 2010 to serve as an umbrella for several existing, stand-alone, non-incorporated inner city programs in the greater Fort Wayne community. Collectively, these programs serve the inner city families of central Fort Wayne, Indiana by providing inner city children and adults with life skills, nourishment, education, mentoring, tutoring, and support services to help them become financially independent and successful. The ultimate goal of Heart of the City Mission Foundation is to break the cycle of generational poverty by making a difference one life at a time.
