Our Strategy

Full time Food Rescue Coordinator

Our full time Food Rescue Coordinator oversees the logistics and communication between

a team of 60 volunteers

and our partner restaurants

Restaurant Partners

Heart of the City has developed long standing relationships with area restaurants who donate surplus and unsold products to the Food Rescue Program.

Because of these partnerships

Over 78,000 pounds of food is donated annually

Volunteers

Our volunteers pick up the surplus food from restaurants 6 days a week, organize and cold-store the food until it gets redistributed.

Our current team of 60 volunteers give over 2800 hours a year

keeping The Food Rescue Program moving forward

Distribution

The Food Rescue Program exists to improve overall health by reducing food insecurity. 100% of the families we serve are living at or below the poverty guidelines. Heart of the City also provides meals to area nonprofits including recovery programs & unhoused shelters

Our Vision

Add to our network of partner restaurants
to bring meals to the 15% of households in Fort Wayne who experience food insecurity regularly.

Increase our cold storage capacity with 2 additional commercial freezers. This additional space
would allow us to maintain a food-safe inventory
to meet the needs of our community.

Maintain current Food Rescue Program distribution vehicles and as resources allow, expand our fleet
